The Whitby High School - Ellesmere Port Local History Pages

About the Project

Local History Sudies

This project was begun when the school website was still in its infancy back in 1999. The first pupils to work on it began in Autumn 2000. To tie in with the Expansion, Trade and Industry module it was decided that it should become part of Year 9 project work and to focus on Mr Royden's classes. The content and links were devised by the original class, who then researched and prepared material in digital form ready for editing.

In 2007, following a reorganisation of the now ten year old school website, it was decided that the local history pages should function as a parallel site with its own domain name - www.ellesmereport.org.uk. This was because we now felt it was providing a service to the local community and should stand alone, not just as a few web pages within the general school site. The site was completely redesigned and revised, going back online in October 2007.

Subsequent Year 9 classes add to this site each Autumn term. If any pupil wishes to contribute articles or if anyone from the locality would like to add material or suitable links please get in touch.

Year 9 articles are in the process of being added, please be patient if some are not yet there.

War Memorial Research

We also have a parallel site covering our researches into the men of the local war memorial and our visits to the battlefields in Belgium and France (see menu link). What began as a smmall undertaking by a handful of students who had visited the battlefields, this has now become a major project and a new website was launched in 2006.
