St. Paul's, Hooton

Hooton Parish Church is, in fact, in the village of Little Sutton, close to the main entrance of the old hall, where the lodge gates still stand. In 1847 the Hooton estate was sold to a Mr. R. C. Naylor. The church was erected between 1847 and 1862 as a tribute to his first wife Mary Sofia. She unfortunately died giving birth to her child, who also died. The overall cost of the church was £5,000, which was an awful lot of money in the 19th century.

St. Paul's church is a Church of England and is one of the most magnificent churches in the county of Cheshire. The interior of the church was built in the ornate Italian style; the church reaches a height of 95 feet (28956 meters). Some of the most notable features in the church are the magnificent round arches, an ornate dome in the Byzantine style about the crossing, a square green serpentine font and a cloister walk connecting the church wit a private family entrance.
