Labour politician and Deputy Prime Minister at the time of writing (dec 2004) grew up in Ellesmere Port. Born in Prestatyn, Wales on 31st May 1938, John Prescott attended Ellesmere Port Secondary Modern (Grange Secondary Modern). After leaving school John became a trainee chef and merchant seaman. In 1963 he studied at Ruskin College in Oxford and later at Hull University. He joined the Labour Party in 1956 and became Deputy Prime Minister in May 1997.
