Ian Woan was born in Heswall on 14th December 1967 before moving to Ellesmere Port.

Not many players in the modern game stay loyal to one club for as long as Ian Woan did at the City Ground. He made his debut for Nottingham Forest in the 1990/91 season and he was a regular goal scorer from midfield ever since. One of Forest's all-time bargain buys, it took just £80,000 to secure his services from non-league Runcorn in 1990. He went on to play over 200 League Games.

Had spells in the USA before playing for Shrewsbury. Joined Portsmouth in 2007 as Under-18s coach.
